Last Saturday, three groups of architects, planners and professional put their heads together to discuss, propose and sketch concept proposals for the Biccerija in Valletta.

The Biccerija is an abandoned building behind the Auberge de Baviere in Valletta.  It dates back to the 1700s. It is government owned and currently abandoned.

The day started with two presentations: Dr. Malcolm Borg discussed relevant charters and conservation ethics.  Perit Ruben Abela gave a history of the building and familiarized the participants with the building and its context.  Following three hours of workshop discussion, the event ended with the presentation and discussion of each group’s proposals.

Hon Minister George Pullicino and Hon. Parl. Secr. Jason Azzopardi attended to part of the proceedings and also visited the site.

The event was organised by the BICC in conjunction with Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs, Parliamentary Secretariat for Revenues and Land, Kamra tal-Periti, Heritage Malta, MEPA and Valletta Rehabilitation Project

The entrance and central courtyard of the Auberge de Baviere provided the perfect setting for the event which was held on 24th October 2009.
